Issue #20, Special Global Warming Update

Dear Science Readers,

The previous Science Shelf update included a pointer to a review of

Cell of Cells
by science journalist Cynthia Fox, a book that puts the science and politics of stem cell research in perspective and provides a detailed look at research and clinical applications.

An equally hot science/political topic is global climate change.

We have added pages for two important upcoming books on the topic:

A Contract with the Earth
by former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and conservationist Terry L. Maple;

and

Storm World: Hurricanes, Politics, and the Battle Over Global Warming
by journalist Chris Mooney.

Full reviews of both books will be added as soon as they are published in major metropolitan newspapers.

On a less controversial subject, you might also enjoy discovering my review of the entertaining new book

Riddled With Life: Friendly Worms, Ladybug Sex, and the Parasites that Make Us Who We Are
by Marlene Zuk.

We are what we eat--or are we?

PLEASE SUPPORT THE SCIENCE SHELF

If you decide to buy any of the books that you discover through the Science Shelf, I hope you will be kind enough to use the links on my pages so that I can continue to get enough income to cover the cost of hosting the website. I never find out who is buying; I just find out what they have bought, how much they paid, and how much my commission amounts to.

In the meantime, happy science reading, and thanks in advance for your support!
